Sunday Stills - The Elements

Wow, this was a challenge. Figuring out what to use was hard.

Take a look at how everyone else interpreted the challenge at Sunday Stills. There are many discussions on the elements and what they consist of. I went with Earth, Wind/Air, Fire, Water as the basics with some sites listing metal and wood. I tried something different with posting mulitple shots too. Don't know if I really like it.I did go to the archives for these photos. Fire - our fireplace; Wood - Carving from Black Forest area in Germany; Earth/Metal - Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina; Wind/Air - Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina; Water - Bailey the Waterbug.

Another busy week for us. FlxFlyer is home and talking back to the TV - normal. The Airman is home on leave waiting to go to his first real assignment - the dining room is a mess - normal.

Sunday Stills - Fences

Sunday Stills challenge - fences. We have an escape attempt from one of the inmates and we have the old and new fence. The old is mine, the new belongs to the neighbor.

The Airman comes home this week. Some leave and then on to his first assignment in Utah. FlxFlyer is going in for surgery again this week and Poochiegirl is going to spend the night with us. Good eats for her, sorry dad, you'll have to wait until you get home.

It has been crazy to say the least around here. I did manage to almost finish a quilt hanger for Armywife. I'll post a shot once it is done.

Armywife and I drove around town and found a couple of water towers. Not to many silos in these parts. We found this old one next to an old smokestack in an older part of Fayetteville. Sorry, I've been down with the flu/cold thing most of the week. Dug into achieves for this gem. I call this Kitty TV. More better pictures as they say, over at Sunday Stills - Silhouettes.
Joined a local photo club this past week and went to a meeting yesterday. I put in a plug for Sunday Stills for challenges and fun, not to mention the great shots that appear there every week.

Sunday Stills Challenge - Powerlines and Landscapes

I had to run to drop an important birthday card in the mail last week and just by chance took my camera with me. On the way home I caught this sunset. Getting to a high enough point was a challenge unto itself. I almost lost the entire sunset getting to this spot. After you take your eyes from the clouds and the reflection of the sun, note the traffic lights and cars in the lower area. Normally I would crop that out, but since the challenge was capturing those things - here they are.

Sunday Stills - Water

We've had warm, bordering on hot weather, snow, rain and cool temps over the last 2 weeks. Here are some water shots for Sunday Stills. The first is a cypress tree growing out of Hope Mills Lake. The stream/creek is what is left of Bailey Lake right behind our house. The dam was broken by the state several years ago due to the fear of flooding. The last is my water bug, Bailey. I had to keep her from wandering into the stream and getting muddy nose to tail. Armywife just cleaned carpets last week. That wouldn't be a smart move on my part to let the dog squirm around in the mud.

The Mechanic, The Marine and FlxFlyer accompanied me to a Monster Truck show last night. It was ok. FlxFlyer took his camera, so I'm getting his shots today when they come over for a Low Country Boil. Cauzie is in town, shopping for quilt stuff with Armywife. Cauzie's son, The Marine came over from Camp Lejune for the weekend.

Here is a motion photo for Sunday Stills. The christmas tree turned green and the throttles went to full power. Both cars went over 300 mph in the quarter mile. I thought about using two other photos, both of Chester our Bloodhound. The first was shot when he wandered into the yard. We sat down on the ground and let him approach us. Of course we had treats in our hands. He ate and then immediately fled to the back of the yard. The other is a shot of him shaking his ears. We call it the wacka wacka wacka moment. Bailey is the other dog, always ready to swim, play ball or Frisbee, night or day, rain or shine. Keep a Smile On Your Face.

Sunday Stills - Architecture

Sunday Stills challenge for this week - Architecture. This is the Alamo. Armywife took the shot last week while we were at our son's graduation from Air Force Basic Training. The Airman is in all blue, I'm standing next to him. The Alamo is right in the middle of downtown San Antonio, Texas. A taste of old style fort architecture.

Sunday Stills Challenge for this week was reflections. I took a few photos in the cold and then happened upon this on a very Spring like day. If you visit the Flickr site, there are a couple of other of my shots. I liked I how I caught the other church in the background. It is almost lost in the haze. I couldn't find a nice clear water setting that was reflecting something nice or with any meaning. I did find some ice, that just would not show anything worth looking at. It was a fountain with a lot of trash showing up. The shots in Virginia were done in some cold near zero windchill weather.
