Our last full day was pretty much like the last 5 full days. Whatever hits your fancy. We enjoyed a breakfast of pancakes with Pecan Syrup bought at Greene's Roadside Gourment Stand. Gourment is quite a stretch. Greene's is a roadside stand that sells all kinds of jelly, jam, syrup, preserves and fruit. There is also the typical Mountain Trinkets one can not live without. A Rebel Flag with deer in the middle or my favorite, a Rebel Flag with a huge green trout in the middle of it.
After breakfast, we almost took a nap. Instead we lounged around and then hit the back roads, winding through the mountains to Banner Elk and Foscoe. We bought our winning lottery ticket. Winning is probably a stretch too. We managed to find a couple of more Barn Quilts tucked away on the sides of Barns. We visited a couple to shops in Banner Elk and then wound our way back down from a different direction and headed to the very crowded Mast General Store Annex. Not a place to visit on a beautiful Saturday. Picked up some gifts and headed to the Ham Shoppe. The great smell of something good baking hits you in the parking lot. We managed to figure out how to actually place an order and - oh, What a sandwich! We both ordered the Valle's Best Combo (you'll have to visit the link to see what it is). We also picked up a couple of huge cookies, fresh from the oven. A short jaunt back to the cabin, enjoyed our lunch and did some packing. We both resisted the strong urge to nap.
Since we had a late and filling lunch, we hit the hot tub when the moon took over duties lighting the valley. Out of the tub, into the living room and warmth of the fireplace (it is 35 right now). We grilled hamburgers and chased them down with salad and the "other" piece of apple cake. Then we headed back down to the fireplace and a movie. Sad to say, our time here is coming to an end. We have to vacate by 11am and head back to reality. I'm sure a couple of dogs and a cat will be glad to see us. The Recruit will probably be happy too, he has about a month left at home before he heads off to the Wild Blue Yonder.
Take care all and hope you enjoyed our time here, we certainly did. If I didn't make you hungry during this, then there is something wrong with my writing.
Just a reminder, FlxFlyer and Poochiegirl will celebrate their 50th Anniversary in just a few short days.
Keep a Smile on Your Face and keep the donations coming for our next visit to the mountains.
Had we known you were in the area we could have ridden over and visited a spell. Better luck next time. Hope you had a great getaway.
